Wow, can’t believe it’s already June! Where the heck did May go???
I feel bad for May. It’s so overshadowed by June. June gets all the attention with it being the end of school and start of summer.
May has some pretty important stuff after all: May Day, Cinco do Mayo, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.
And one of my most favorite people was born in May…Audrey Hepburn! Ashley and I are HUGE fans of her. What an amazing woman she was — fashion icon, talented actress and soulful humanitarian. And such a classy woman, with a sense of humor to boot!
I’ve got a little story about Audrey….. and our bathroom of all things. Don’t worry, it’s not gross. Read on and you’ll find out….
We’ve been remodeling Ashley’s hall bath upstairs for the last several months, and we’re getting super close to finally finishing. All that’s left now is to hang the new mirror, paint the trim, and decorate the walls. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out what art work to use on the walls, and with Audrey being on my brain this last month, I came up with an idea….who better to adorn the wall with than Audrey!
After Ashley agreed it was a good idea as well, I hopped online and started searching for an Audrey poster to purchase that included one of her quotes (since Ashley and I love so many of her quotes). I couldn’t seem find a poster that was the right size for the wall, and then it dawned on me that I could just make my own!!! With the help of PicMonkey and Google, I had some Audrey wall art in a flash:
I ended up with a slight dilemma though, there are so many great Audrey photos and quotes, I had a REALLY hard time deciding which ones to use. So I ended up making this one too!:
Since I can’t decide which one I like better, I figured we could just alternate between the two of these. Or, better yet, make even more to swap out! That’s the cool thing about making your own stuff, you can make as much as you need!!!
Here’s what I did to make these:
1) Searched the web for Audrey photos and saved my favorite pics to my computer.
2) Opened one of the pics in PicMonkey, typed in the “I Believe” quote, and added some effects and a simple grey background to give the illusion of a mat border.
3) Saved the PicMonkey file as a jpg to my computer.
4) Copied the jpg photo into Power Point, resized the photo slightly, and then printed it out on 8-1/2 x 11″ white card stock.
5) Last but not least, I trimmed the photo with my paper cutter and put it into an existing white frame that I had on hand.
So thanks to PicMonkey, we’ve now got something to hang on one of the walls! Speaking of PicMonkey…it really is one of my favorite photo editing tools, but folks, let me tell ya, there are a ton of online photo and graphics programs out there now, and many of them are FREE. You can make tons of great things and let your creativity run WILD, and like I said, for FREE! How many fun things are available for free these days??? Julia over MSB was even kind enough to list out many of the free tools here.
Ok, I’ll get off my rant about wild and free creativity! Hopefully we’ll be completely done with the bathroom soon and as soon as we are, I’ll do a reveal post and you can see the photo of the lovely Miss Audrey hanging on the wall. So stay tuned for that!
So that’s my Audrey bathroom story. Was it all you thought it would be??!!!
And goodbye May, we will miss you until next year. In the meantime, hello June and onto summer….
